Who we are:
The Charlotte Council of Garden Clubs, Inc. consists of seven garden clubs, four associate horticultural societies and two youth clubs. We were organized and federated in 1952. We are a member of the Garden Club of North Carolina, Inc. and National Garden Clubs, Inc. All of our member garden clubs are federated and belong to these organizations. Belonging to these organizations gives Council members access to valuable information about gardening as well as the opportunity to participate in flower schools, landscape design schools and many other classes.
Council Organization:
The Charlotte Council of Garden Clubs is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of all club Presidents, Council Representatives from each club and the member elected Executive Board consisting of a President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer. Funding for programs and other events is provided by member dues, one half of the proceeds from two garage and plant sales a year and contributions.
Betty Little House:
CCGC owns the Betty Little House at 1820 East Seventh Street in the Elizabeth Neighborhood. It was named after past President, Betty Little, who spearheaded the purchase of the house. The house is available for use by our clubs and associates for their meetings. Club members may use the house for personal events for one half the rate for the public. The maintenance and updating of the house is funded by businesses who rent rooms upstairs, event rentals, and one half of the proceeds from the plant and garage sales.
Annual Council Events:
The Charlotte Council of Garden Clubs has 3 formal meetings a year. The first meeting introduces the upcoming year, provides Council information, votes on budget, and shares committee and officer reports. The mid-year meeting is held to nominate officers for the upcoming year, give officer and committee reports and to provide a special program on something of interest to CCGC members and guests. The annual luncheon meeting in May is held to elect and install officers, give reports, share happenings in member clubs and conduct any business needed to conclude the year and provide some form of entertainment. The luncheon meeting is often held in special venues. In 2022 we met at Duke mansion and in 2023 we met at Historic Rosedale. In 2024 we are meeting at pleasant Grove Farm.
CCGC also sponsors special events such as a Terra Forma Art Installation by Crista Cammaroto, garden tours and workshops. Each year the Betty Little House is decorated by club members for the holiday season, and often the Council holds a Holiday Party or Tea.
